Jesse Eisenberg is Lex and People are Still Bitching About It

Last January, this year, Warner Bros had announced that 30-year-old Jesse Eisenberg had been chosen to act out the role of Lex Luthor in the highly anticipated ‘Batman vs. Superman’ movie. Not surprisingly, this fueled a huge negative reception. After the commotion with Ben Affleck being chosen as Batman last year, this sure is another bad publicity for the film.

This reminded me of another DC film adaptation way back in 2008 where a certain actor was "mistakenly" chosen to act a certain iconic role:

But compared to the reactions to Eisenberg and Ben Affleck's casting, Ledger's was still kinda tame. Because despite the negative reactions to the new Joker, at least Ledger had the advantage of being respected for his past films and the social media during that time is still not as popular as it is now. To be fair, Affleck has some catching up to do after the Daredevil flop and how could the young Eisenberg play a smug, charismatic, egotistical millionaire?

What I'm saying is, people should calm their tits when it comes to screaming murder against casting decisions made by producers and directors who are too busy to hear your "ideas" anyway. Especially those who are in the extremes, the ones who seriously act as if they know exactly how everything would turn out (yes whether it's negative or positive) when the film isnt even made yet. Predictions are nice but being a loud exaggerated shit is annoying.

I mean, there's nothing wrong with having calm open-minded discussions, right?. It just annoys me that there are those who loudly comment as if their opinions came straight out of the bible. Wait until the movie comes out then start releasing your inner demons.

Fan-Made Akira Live Action Trailer is Superb!

Requests for live version of the 1988 anime cult classic Akira had been heard for many years already. There had been talks of creating such film in Holywood but even the current plans is yet to see the light of day. However in 2012, fans created the Akira Project via an IndieGoGo campaign, a global crowdfunding site. The main goal was to create a 5-minute live acton trailer that would also "stick as close to the source material as possible. A chance to do Akira Justice."

After a year and a half of waiting, Akira Project is finally done with their own fan-made live action Akira trailer. It is awesomesauce:

Lead by director/producer Nguyen-Anh Nguyen and CineGround Media, the team is composed of 100 people from 12 countries. They had Xavier Yuvens as Tetsuo and Osric Chau (a.k.a. Kevin the prophet) as Kaneda. The product is a tasteful, impressive fan trailer that could put Hollywood to shame.

Well I might be exaggerating, but don't forget that this is an unofficial project by devoted fans. Any attempt by Hollywood studios in the future better make sure that they'll follow this group's vision in recreating anime classics into live action films. Nothing's as worse as seeng a Japanese character being played by a Caucasian (remember that Zac Efron as Kaneda rumor? cringe)

Congratulations to all the team members, the actors who gave their tim and to everyone's creativity and efforts. Job well done!

Disney Connections: Frozen Tangled with Tangled

This is a hasty-made post, so I'll just add improvements later. So anyway I wanna share two great rumors concerning the connection between the world of Corona and Arendelle (a.k.a. Frozen and Tangled) Disney's notorious of hidden easer eggs so the following might be possible:
Recently, it was discovered that Flynn and Rapunzel were inserted as surprise cameos in Frozen, sometime when Anna was singing "For the First Time in Forever". The physical similarities are obvious.

On Winters and Finnick

I've got a busy schedule this week. It's getting worse. Between surprise quizzes and joining our school's job fair, it's simply outlandish how the teachers still managed to add more requirements whose deadlines are around a week before the exams! So last weekend, to chill myself, I decided to watch Catching Fire and Frozen.

I've got to say that I absolutely love the Hunger Games trilogy, but I wasn't able to watch the second movie last year because Christmas is an expensive season that makes everybody dirt poor. So I was so damn excited when I finally get to watch it last Saturday. Not surprisingly, they were once more faithful to the book. I don't remember much but it all came back to me as the plot progressed. It's cool to see the events unfold on the big screen like it did in my imagination while reading it years ago. However only Finnick Odair made a dent in my mind. The gorgeous, pretty, mesmerizing Finnick Odair:

The Late Review: Pacific Rim

Finally finished watching Pacific Rim. Now don't get me wrong, I've seen it many months ago but only up to the part where two kaijus appeared. Over the weekend I was able to finished watching it once and for all and for those who told me it was shit, it was actually awesome you ungrateful assholes. It's an eye candy, monster edition, stop complaining.

Well of course to be fair, it has its long list of cons, that can't be helped. However I'm still seriously pissed to those who treat Pacific Rim as if it's the year's worst crap ever. Come on guys, stop with the exaggeration, it does not make you sound like an honorable movie critic. The film isn't perfect but it sure is enjoyable.

Now, since we've just talked about the downsides of the movie, might as well go on with it, here are the cons:

1. The acting seems off. Fortunately, Idris Elba saves the day. I was quite happy to see Ron Perlman too even if it was only for a minor role.

2. Dearest Mako Mori, I love your bravery and stubbornness and all but I really am distracted by your hair. Not that it's bad, but I'm a girl too and I found myself worrying over your short bob for the rest of the movie. Seriously, I'd rather have you in a much simpler hair style.

3. The world government's only contribution to Jaegar-making is... Financial assistance. That's the main impression I got, then later on they told Pentecost that the robots are not effective anymore so they will just have to withdraw their helping hand in a few months. Like bitches, you actually think your wall is a better idea? del Toro should remember that world leaders in movies may have common sense too.

4. Why are there still civilians living near the Pacific? In the prologue it was stated that the people somehow overcame their fear of the monsters since they now have Jaegers and had became complacent later on. BULLSHIT. Those are aliens, huge motherfucking monsters trampling on buildings like spoiled brats, normal people won't just live on at the same place like they used to (unless of course if they're not stable in the head or something) Would have been more realistic if humanity have cowered in the middle of China-Russia and the Kaijus are still coming in.

5. Gipsy Danger survived because of the huge magic sword! Good job Mako for not forgetting about it. Maybe the others could have stood a chance if they remembered this secret weapon. OH WAIT, it's because they don't even have one! All they had was tiny knives and useless punching metal fists and my mind couldn't comprehend why.

Naturally I won't leave out the good parts. Here are the reasons why PR is my fave movie this year:
1. Remember that flying kaiju? I was pleasantly surprised. Made me howl like "FUUUUUCK!" Wait, then there's the jaeger sword making its appearance out of nowhere? Also remember when Pentecost walk out to be a jaegar pilot once again? How about the cute Ashida Mana a.k.a mini Mako crying her heart out? DUDE. Can't count the number of times I sat in front of the screen with my mouth hanging open. Speaking of...

2. Charlie Hunnam as Raleigh Becket is just perfect, he has the perfect voice for the prologue and justifies his ass-kicking character with that sexy body of his. Mako approves.

3. Despite having Mako as a semi-love interest, I'm happy to see that there had been no kissing scene. Mako had developed a crush on Becket but at the last part where they were together in the ocean, they look like siblings.

4. The soundtrack is simply amazing. This one just gets me hyped every fucking time.

5. Perfect eye candy. Movie nowadays are filled to the brim with CGI but Pacific Rim is different by actually having uniquely designed monsters, amazing fight scenes and memorable jaegars.

6. The best prologue I've seen in a movie so far. Fast but not hasty, covers all the necessary details, from the people, the government, the economy, and the complacent attitude as well as capitalism humans love so much.

I knew from the first time I saw the trailer that this movie is for me. It felt like Gundam and Voltron all over again, my childhood loves finally making it to to big screen. I have no problem with the movie's downsides, as long as I'm entertained, I will love it. After all this is why it's called the Entertainment Industry. So for all the haters out there, HATE ON BITCHEZ

Something to Watch Out For: Harry Potter Spin Off Films!!

Kevin Tsujihara, Chief Executive Officer of Warner Bros. Entertainment announced that there would be an expanded partnership with best-selling author J.K. Rowling. So what are these guys going to to create this time? Apparently turning the Harry Potter's Hogwarts textbook "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" into a film! Now I'm puking rainbow. 

There's more: This project is planning a film series, J.K. Rowling would also serve as the screenwriter and everything is still set in the wizarding world and will feature magical creatures and characters familiar to each and everyone of the muggle fans. 

"It all started when Warner Bros. came to me with the suggestion of turning 'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them' into a film, I thought it was a fun idea, but the idea of seeing Newt Scamander, the supposed author of 'Fantastic Beasts,' realized by another writer was difficult. Having lived for so long in my fictional universe, I feel very protective of it and I already knew a lot about Newt. As hard-core Harry Potter fans will know, I liked him so much that I even married his grandson, Rolf, to one of my favourite characters from the Harry Potter series, Luna Lovegood. As I considered Warners’ proposal, an idea took shape that I couldn't dislodge. That is how I ended up pitching my own idea for a film to Warner Bros.
Although it will be set in the worldwide community of witches and wizards where I was so happy for seventeen years, 'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them' is neither a prequel nor a sequel to the Harry Potter series, but an extension of the wizarding world. The laws and customs of the hidden magical society will be familiar to anyone who has read the Harry Potter books or seen the films, but Newt's story will start in New York, seventy years before Harry's gets underway.

And I thought everything ended with the Deathly Hollows, I remember fantasizing about a sequel or something. But now, since 're having this, count me in! It's such an amazing idea, and I hope that even after these films would come to fruition they will start on making a series for...the stories of Hogwart's founders. Hey I could dream on! I mean I don't think people actually saw a spin off coming right? There is hope.

Affleck is now a Batman. Hilarity Ensues

As mentioned in this year's San Diego Comic Con, there will be a sequel to this summer's Superman movie"Man of Steel". The coolest thing the fans heard of the plot was that this is gong to have a Batman vs. Superman theme. Everybody loves bromance, so everybody went booyah. What's more, the movie has been scheduled for release on July 17, 2015.

Then this new development erupts: Ben Affleck replaces Christian Bale as Batman.This isn't the first time that Affleck has played a superhero in a movie though. The audiences loved him in Daredevil, but apparently movie critics feel the opposite. What happened then is happening now since there is this huge pile of mixed reactions online. I want to be on the neutral side but this one just ended it for me:

Will he be the best Batman ever or will he butcher our favorite masked hero? Time will tell. But I will back out of this one. There is still this one long list of Marvel & DC movies and my eyes are just tired of seeing all those sequels and reunion of heroes and shit. It's the annoying bandwagon and as much as I want to support Batman, I have to take a rest.

Finally Watched "The Conjuring" [May Contain Spoilers]

I watched The conjuring mainly to discover what all they hype was about. I chickened out at first since that stupid Annabelle doll is the first thing you see in the introduction. When I tried watching it again the next day, I finally finished it. It's a good film, I was entertained, horrified and yeah, I don't think I'll play hide and seek for a while, nor would I distrust a dog's behavior.

What blew me away was that the part I was scared most wasn't the usual make-you-scared scenes of the movie. True, the surprises they used were good, the dark corners were perfect, and that motherfucking doll. Creeps the fuck out of you, just utterly disturbing despite that the real life doll was actually cute.

Not fair!

The scariest scene for me was when Lorraine Warren started enumerating all the suspected ghosts she had researched about the Perron house and their back stories. It was a simple scene but I sure had goosebumps. When she talked about Bathsheba the witch, then that other mother, then the son. Whoa a houseful of ghosts. It really made sense after all the weird occurrences the family was experiencing. So my reaction? "Oh shit there are more than one ghost omfg how shit shit"

Another cool thing about this film is the possession scene. Unlike most exorcism movies, this one wasn't exaggerated, no heavy prosthetics, no gymnastic stunts and lesser gore. Maybe because this time, the movie is truly based off true events, and not a heavily edited anecdote. In fact, the paranormal investigator Lorraine Warren herself became the consultant to the filmmakers. It gives viewers a new reason to trust in the overused "Based on true events" theme in horror movies.

Despicable Me is Flawless

I enjoyed every second of it. I hope most movies would be this cool and that there would always be minions around and about. However Pacific Rim is also showing this week and I'm totally broke. That's so unfortunate since I truly hoped to watch this movie in big screen because of its awesomeness, I'm not even going to expect an ultra amazing plot, but to be able to see all those visual effects might have been enough for me. But alas I would only be watching it one DVD. I'm not saying I regret seeing the minions though, like I said, it's flawless and worth it.

But for the time being let me summarize some interesting movie news this month and to busy myself from Not-seeing-Pacific-Rim depression:

Shun Oguri, Sho Sakurai and Satoshi Tsumabuki in Lupin Live Movie

The Tokyo Sports newspaper on Friday and Saturday that Monkey Punch's Lupin III manga and anime will have a live-action version! Shun Oguri is lucky enough to snatch the title role Arsène Lupin. The newspaper added that Arashi band member Sho Sakurai will also play the sharpshooter Daisuke Jigen, while Satoshi Tsumabuki will be swordsman Goemon Ishikawa. However NTV, the television broadcaster of the Lupin III anime, has not officially announced a live-action Lupin III film.The film (tentatively titled Lupin Sansei ~Meitantei vs. Lupin~/Lupin III: Famous Detective vs. Lupin) will begin shooting in early autumn for release on March 2014. 

However, the newspaper added the project is still casting the main female role of Fujiko. Mirei Kiritani, Masami Nagasawa, Anne Watanabe, Airi Taira, Kyoko Fukada, Asami Mizukawa, Tsubasa Honda, Kiko Mizuhara, and Kou Shibasaki are the popular candidates.

Trailer for VHS 2 is Here

Ok, I'm actually late in posting this since the trailer's been around since last month. I'm still super excited for this though. Thanks to my friends, I enjoyed the first movie despite the varying degrees of quality of the stories (It's expected since it's an anthology). I tried reading the Wikipedia article but I have to crawl away from that place at once. Apparently someone had given some effort in making detailed summaries of the movie's subplots. WHY WOULD ANYONE DO THAT.

Hurr durr, it's Karma talking I'm sure. This must be my punishment for spewing Game of Thrones spoilers like there's no tomorrow. Anyway, VHS 2 will be out in theaters in July 12.

Movies that Stuck to my Brain 2012-2013

I got the opportunity to watch You are the Apple of my Heart during a get-together with my high school friends a few months ago. We have no idea what the movie was about besides that it was based from its director's semi-autobiographical novel. As a whole, it was a typical story of the boy,Ko Ching-teng meets girl, Shen Chia-yi, drifting apart as the years went by. However it still is a fun movie, especially the events during the characters' high school years which includes getting caught while masturbating in class, low grades, pranks on the female classmates, oh, and Ko Ching-teng being a nudist. Also, I love how bittersweet it was. I'm glad they managed to put in few more laughs till the very end. Also since this is based on real events and the movie did well in cinemas, there had been a wide public interest on the real life characters. You could read more about that here

Next cool film I saw was Limitless starring Bradley Cooper, that actor from Hangoever with one hell of a sexy name. He plays as Eddie Morra. The guy was financially down, a struggling writer and newly dumped by his girlfriend. When all hope is gone, he met his ex brother-in-law who offered him a drug that could make him use his brain's 100% capacity. He took it and had better senses, perfect memory, perfect social skills, learns languages in hours, became successful in stock trading, etcetera. However Eddie realized the drug's side effects and the enemies he made in taking it. The story then takes off in trying to outsmart these men as well as survive and retain whatever intelligence he got from the pills. Reviews on the film are either amazed at the plot idea or hates the plot holes the film had. Personally I enjoyed the film and keep on imagining what I would do if were in Eddie's shoes the entire time I was watching.

Next movie from my list is of course, Upside Down. Kirsten Dunst and Jim Sturgess and Kirsten Dunst play as Adam and Eden, two people form two different worlds that are governed by gravitational laws in which the upper world, where Eden lives is the world of the rich, while the lower world consists of poverty-stricken people like Adam. However there is a mountain that gets very close to the upper and this is where he met Eden. Even if their worlds pull them in opposite directions, Adam sets out in a personal mission to reunite with his true love. Aww besides the unique idea and love story thing, the movie also boasts amazing visuals of the unique worlds.

Disney's Brave was released in June 2012, but it was only months later that I was able to finally watch it. I was at first unimpressed since after Tangled, I pretty much prefer stories with a prince in it. But since Brave proved to be a nice story between mother and daughter, it became a favorite! I was awed at Merida, I was just mesmerized by her. First, her flaming red hair is so gorgeous, it's not the usual style we see from other Disney princesses where flowing locks is more in use. Merida's is just amazing, unruly and bouncing all over. It's also cool to note that Pixar created an entire software just for this red mane of hers. Also I am fascinated with the way she talks too, I never thought Scottish accent could sound so good in English, very well done.

So yeah, these are the four movies I enjoyed very much, though there are still honorable mentions like, Hangover 1 and 2, Prometheus, The Perks of Being a Wallflower. I don't like much of the movies showed in the first half of 2013 though except for Iron Man 3 and Life of Pi. However there are still a few movies I'm excited for ;)
